It's hard to stand out in the crowd as a photographer. Everyone knows a photographer...a cousin, a brother, their neighbor...or even yourself with your phone. Man, Iphones take some amazing pictures...that's no joke!! 

So being that you can find a photographer around every corner I was struggling to know how to be the "one" that people had to use time and time again. I wanted to be my families "personal photographer". The one they call everytime! 

 When I started taking photos I was using film, learning how the camera worked and how to use natural light to get the look I was going for. I grew to love pulling that camera up to my face and seeing the world through that lens. 

Over the years though I lost the love and was just caught in the whirlwind of the digital era and wedding industry competing for brides with the lowest price. I got majorly burned out, and put my camera down for a while. 

But recently I was cleaning out our basement and found my film cameras...I put a roll of film in and took my kids out for an impromptu photo session...these photos are what came of that shoot on expired film on a really sunny fall day. It's not perfect, but man it felt like my heart started beating again for photography!

There's something about just taking your time with each click, it forces creativity, it causes you to slow down, in-fact I am celebrating the flaws. I actually would probably have deleted most of these images if taken on my digital camera, but with these you can actually feel the the magic. I kind of love the contrast, the grain, the fade of the expired film, and the genuine expressions on their little faces. In fact I think I may get them printed and put on my walls. 

This whole experience refinding my love of photography though going back to film has shifted my whole business model and I am so excited to capture your families and graduates with film and fill your walls with stunning heirloom art!
